AN elderly woman remains in a serious condition in hospital this morning after she was knocked down on the southside of the city last night.

It is understood the pedestrian was hit by a van as she was crossing the road near Roxboro Roundabout at around 6pm.

The woman was taken by ambulance to the Mid Western Regional Hospital for treatment following the accident and she remains there this morning.

The scene of the accident was forensically examined last night and gardai at Roxboro Road garda station are appealing for any witnesses to contact them at (061) 214340.
