Two Limerick gardai hospitalised after patrol car is rammed

The unmarked red Toyota Corolla was rammed shortly before 1.30pm as gardai responded to an emergency 999 call in the Bru Na Ghrudan estate in Castletroy.

The occupants of the patrol car - two female gardai attached to Henry Street garda station - were hospitalised with serious injuries following the incident.

The male driver of the second car, a 00D-registered gold Rover, was also taken to the Mid Western Regional Hospital for treatment.

None of the injuries are believed to life threatening.

The scene of this afternoon's incident was preserved for several hours for technical examinations.

Gardai at Henry Street are conducting a separate investigation into the circumstances of the collision.
