A DRUG addict who has more than 100 previous convictions is due to be sentenced next month after he admitted steal ing cosmetics from the same store in the city centre on consecutive dates earlier this month.
dam Hayes, 25, of Lee Estate, Island Road pleaded guilty to stealing cosmetics, worth â‚¬166, from the Boots Store in William Street on April 6, last.
Sgt Donal Cronin, Henry Street, said when garda responded to a call relating to a shoplifting offence a the store they met with Hayes.
Limerick District Court was told the defendant was arrested and charged following that incident but that less than 24 hours later he was caught at the same store trying to steal goods worth â‚¬9.78.
Sgt Cronin said Hayes was arrested again a day later on April 8 after he was observed by gardai attempting to break into a number of cars in the Westbury Estate in Corbally.
When he was arrested, gardai recovered a sat-nav system which had been taken from a car in the estate.
The court heard the defendant cop-operated with gardai following his arrest and that the sat-nav was returned to its owner.
During the same hearing, Hayes pleaded guilty to having a small amount of cannabis on that date and he also admitted having â‚¬20 worth of the drug at Bridge Street on February 10, last.
Sgt Cronin told the court that Hayes has a total of 122 previous convictions - most of which relate to theft offences associated with his addiction problems.
â€œHe has quite a history of previous convictions,â€ said Sgt Cronin.
Hayes is due to be sentenced on May 8, next.
