Two arrested in connection with alleged County Limerick gang rape
TWO young men have been arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a young girl in County Limerick earlier this year.

TWO young men have been arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a young girl in County Limerick earlier this year.

An investigation was launched in February after the 16-year-old made a statement to gardaí about being raped.

She complained that she was raped and sexually assaulted by a number of individuals in the Colmanswell area of County Limerick and over the border in the Charleville/ Ballyhea area of County Cork on February 1, last.

A number of searches were conducted in the Kilmallock and Charleville areas in February and several items were seized and sent for forensic analysis.

The Garda Press Office has confirmed that two males were arrested this morning as part of the ongoing invetsigation. They are being detaiined at Bruff and Mallow Garda stations under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

It is understood that one of those arrested is 16 years old and the second is aged in his early 20s.
