Former Limerick minister is new head of Unicef Ireland

FORMER Fianna Fail junior minister at the Deparment of Foreign Affairs, Peter Power is the new head of Unicef in Ireland.

FORMER Fianna Fail junior minister at the Deparment of Foreign Affairs, Peter Power is the new head of Unicef in Ireland.

He will replace Melanie Verwoerd, partner of the late broadcaster Gerry Ryan.

Mr Power, who lost his seat in the last General Election, also served as an Alderman on Limerick City Council before embarking on career in national politics.

He is a qualified solicitor and before entering the Dail in 2002, he worked with Holmes O’Malley Sexton, solicitors, Henry Street, Limerick.

Mr Power, 47, was in charge of the Irish Aid programme, which is based at Henry Street and is married to Lorraine. They have four children.
