Limerick gardai investigate ‘suspicious’ death

GARDAI are treating as suspicious the death of a man whose body was found in an apartment in the city centre.

The body of the man - believed to be in his late 50s or early 60s - was found shortly before 11am when gardai were called to an apartment on Wickham Street.

Details of the death have not been released but it is understood the man sustained a number of stab wounds to his neck and upper body.

The scene of the grim discovery was immediately sealed off and the office of the state pathologist has been notified.

Members of the Garda Technical Bureau are also expected travel to Limerick later today to assist local detectives with their inquiries.

It is understood the man, who has not been named, lived alone at the apartment, which is located above a business premises.
