GARDAI are awaiting the results of forensic tests following two separate house fires at adjoining houses in the Hyde Road area of Ballinacurra Weston

The fires broke out in the early hours of Thursday morning but the exact cause has yet to be identified.

The first fire broke out shortly after 3.15am and three units of the Limerick city fire service attended the blaze for almost an hour.

The second fire broke out shortly after 4.30am and again three units of the fire service were deployed at the scene for almost an hour.

Both houses were extensively damaged by the fires, which may gardai believe may have been started maliciously.

Nobody was injured as neither of the houses were occupied at the time.

The scene of the two fires was preserved by gardai and members of the divisional scenes of crimes unit have since conducted detailed forensic examinations at each of the houses.

Gardai at Roxboro Road have launched an investigation and any witnesses to either of the fires is asked to contact them at (061) 214340.
