GARY Kirwan, who is fighting and beating his weight problem, has dropped from 41 to 34 stone in the space of three months.

Last January the Corbally man asked Ray D’Arcy to find a weighing scales for him as he couldn’t find out his exact weight. Ray weighed him live on air and Gary was shocked to find he was 41 stone.

Since then Gary has linked up with Motivation Clinic in Shannon Street and three months on he has lost over six stone.

Before Christmas, when Gary was over 40 stone, he was too embarrassed to go for a walk as people would stare at him. “I did it before Christmas and you could see the heads of people in cars whipping around. How there wasn’t a car crash I don’t know,” Gary told Ray D’Arcy.

Now he has taken part in two 5k fun runs and is training with Limerick Charity Boxing for their event in July. At the first 5k in Cork Gary said he felt very self-conscious among all the fit athletes.

“I’ve seen it in people’s faces going for job interviews or you meet people and they stare at you in disgust,” said Gary, but he overcame his fear and took part.
