GARDAI have been granted permission to dispose of a large quantity of condoms and lubricant which were seized from a brothel at a hotel in Limerick.

Making a Police Property Application, Detective Garda Ivan Muldoon said the property was seized when gardai searched the hotel room on November 18, last following a surveillance operation.

He said gardai went to the hotel after they were alerted by management who had concerns that a brothel was being operated in the room.

Limerick District Court was told a number of men were observed “coming and going” from the hotel room in the middle of the day and that a 21-year-old Czech woman who was inside admitted she was working as a prostitute.

Det Garda Muldoon said the woman, who was not prosecuted, had a ticket to fly back to Czechoslovakia the following day.

Judge Marian O’Leary granted the application to dispose of the items seized and she also ordered that €1,850 in cash which was seized from the woman be forfeited to the State.
