Woman, 82, knocked down and killed in Limerick

The 82-year-old was fatally injured when she was struck by a car as she crossed the road at Ballynabanogue, Croom at around 7.15pm

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was removed to University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem examination will be conducted.

The driver of the car which hit the woman was uninjured.

The road was closed for several hours to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators but it has since reopened.

The woman was the 11th to die on Limerick roads this year and the second in a less than a week.
