TWO youths are being questioned by gardai at Roxboro Road following the seizure of a firearm and ammunition in the Janesboro area of the city.

The discovery was made when a number of males fled from gardaí patrolling McDonough Avenue yesterday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the Garda Press Office said one round of ammunition, an iron bar, a baseball bat and a number of other items were seized in addition to the firearm.

Two youths, aged in their late teens, arrested in connection with the incident are currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act at Roxboro Road Garda Station, where they can be held for up to 72 hours without charge.

The weapon has been sent for ballistic analysis and investigations are ongoing.
