NEWPORT man Adrian O’Connell got the shock of his life this Friday, after his fiancé gave him a Valentine’s Day gift he will never forget.
Karen Coyle, from Janesboro won a competition run by the Parkway Shopping Centre giving people the chance to get their Valentine’s Day message written on a billboard for all to see.
On her message to husband-to-be Adrian, she wrote: “Can’t wait to September to finally be your wife. Love you more than anything”.
Adrian, who works at the Meteor store in the Parkway SC, admitted he did not see the billboard when he drove into work this morning.
It was left to his colleagues to stage a mocked-up fire drill to allow him to notice it.
“I was absolutely shocked. I didn’t see it when I was driving in on my way into the Parkway, but the lads closed up the shop telling me we had to get out because there was a fire,” he said.
Adrian and Karen are getting married in September, and had decided to have a low-key Valentine’s Day this year.
“But she has always tried to do things a bit differently. On this occasion, I am totally shocked though,” he laughed.
