JP MCMANUS is expected to return to a hero’s reception in County Limerick this weekend following his sensational victory in the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

With Tony McCoy on board, JP’s horse, Synchronised, romped to victory in the premier race of the National Hunt calendar making it JP’s first ever Gold Cup win.

The 8-1 shot trained by Jonjo O’Neill, only took the lead for the first time after jumping the last fence. “It’s lovely to win it. We did it our way,” said a delighted JP in the winner’s enclosure.

His wife Noreen described the win as “magic” and said it meant “just everything after all these years”.

“It is just wonderful - delighted for Jonjo, Jacqui, Tony and Chanelle, and all the lads - well done JP,” she beamed at her husband.
