A woman was hospitalised after she was rescued from the river Shannon near the Limerick city centre this afternoon.

The alarm was raised at around 2.45pm and the woman was taken from the water a short time later by members of Limerick Marine Search and Rescue who assisted members of the Limerick Fire and Rescue Service.

It is understood the woman, who is aged in her 20’s, sustained a number of injuries, which are not life-threatening.
