Mum accused of killing son sent forward for trial

A MOTHER accused of killing her son in Charleville has been sent forward for trial to the current sessions of the Central Criminal Court, on the directions of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

A MOTHER accused of killing her son in Charleville has been sent forward for trial to the current sessions of the Central Criminal Court, on the directions of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Diane Ward, 43, of Harrison Place, Charleville is accused of killing her son Anthony Ward, aged eight, at their home in Harrison Place, Charleville on September 3 last.

Ms Ward appeared before Limerick District Court by video link this week, where Superintendent Pat McCarthy gave evidence that he presented a completed book of evidence to Ms Ward’s solicitor Paul Cagney.

Judge Eugene O’Kelly issued the accused with a formal warning that if any part of her defence relates to alibi evidence she must provide details of this evidence to the state within 14 days.

The accused was further remanded in custody and said “thank you” to the judge at the end of the hearing.
