FOUR men are being questioned by gardai following a major drugs seizure on the outskirts of Limerick city.
Cannabis worth more than €600,000 was seized when gardai stopped a car on the Ballysimon Road at lunchtime yesterday.
A man in his forties was arrested at the scene and another man was arrested at around 6pm last night.
Further quantities of drugs were seized during follow up searches at houses on the outskirts of the city and in Bruff.
In addition to the Limerick arrests, two men were arrested in Gowran, County Kilkenny last night when gardai located a van which was being sought as part of the investigation.
A further quantity of drugs was seized at that location but the value is not yet know.
Yesterday’s intelligence-led operation involved members of the garda national drugs unit who were assisted by members of the Limerick drugs squad and local detectives.
The seizure has been described as a “significant blow” to drugs gangs in Limerick.
