County Limerick gardai continue to hunt for suspected burglars

ONE man is being questioned and three are still on the run following a massive manhunt across County Limerick yesterday afternoon.

ONE man is being questioned and three are still on the run following a massive manhunt across County Limerick yesterday afternoon.

A major garda operation was launched shortly after midday yesterday, after gardai were alerted to a car acting suspiciously in the KIlmallock area.

The occupants of the car are suspected of being involved in a break-in at a house in Martinstown earlier in the day. THe vehicle was wasp pursued from Kilmallock in the direction of Rourke’s Cross where it failed to stop at a check-point.

The high speed pursuit continued in the direction of Newcastle West before the vehicle was abandoned between Broadford and Ashford.

A 23-year-old man, who was arrested in the Kilmeedy area a short time later, is being questioned at Bruff Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Gardai from Newcastle West, Abbeyfeale and North Cork are involved in the ongoing search operation to locate the other men, who took to the fields after alighting from their car.

The garda helicopter and sniffer dogs have also been deployed along with members of the regional response unit to assist in the search operation.

The high-powered Volvo car, which was used by the four men, will be technically examined by gardai as part of their investigations.
