PROMINENT solicitor John Devane is due to appear in court again later today accused of assaulting another solicitor in the precinct of the courthouse earlier this year.

Mr Devane, 49, whose offices are located at Quinlan Street, the Crescent appeared before the court yesterday charged under Section 2 of the Non Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.

He was summonsed to appear after gardai received complaints following separate incidents in May and June.

Mr Devane, who has been a solicitor for almost 20 years, is accused of assaulting Mr Herbert on May 25, last and on June 9, last.

Both incidents are alleged to have happened at the courts complex at Merchants Quay while the district court was sitting.

When the case was called yesterday, Judge Eamon O’Brien said he would not deal with the case as he knows all of the parties involved.

He adjourned the case until this morning to allow another judge - Gerard Haughton - to hear a number of applications in relation to the proceedings.
