UNIONS representing nurses at the Mid Western Regional Hospital are to enter talks with HSE management at the Labour Relations Commission later today.

The talks, which are scheduled to take place in Limerick this morning, were arranged following a third day of strike action at the hospital yesterday morning.

More than 80 nurses picketed the hospital for four hours to highlight the chronic overcrowding situation at the accident and emergency department.

According to the HSE, a number of day-case surgeries, scheduled for yesterday morning, were postponed due to the strike action.

It is understood, if a resolution is not found today, the dispute will be referred to the National Implementation Body.
