Heroin with a street value of over €700,000 was seized at an apartment on the Ennis Road when armed members of the Divisional Drugs Squad, and officers from Henry Street Garda Station, raided the premises at 3pm on Saturday.

Smaller quantities of cocaine, cannabis herb and ecstasy tablets, which were destined for the streets of Limerick, were also recovered during the operation, as well as two semi automatic pistols and a quantity of ammunition which have been sent for forensic and ballistic testing.

A man, who is in his early forties, was arrested in the apartment during the raid and brought for questioning to Henry Street Garda Station where he remains in custody this Monday morning, detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act.

It is understood the gardai had been monitoring the address for some time, as part of their ongoing operations tackling gangs selling drugs in Limerick city.
