HOMEOWNERS and businesses across the city are being encouraged to avail of a free recycling service when they are disposing of their Christmas Trees over the coming weeks.

Limerick City Council has announced it will operate a number of Christmas Tree collection points at locations across the city on January 7, 8, 15 and 22.

The Christmas trees that are presented at each of the collection points will be shredded by council staff and then used as bark mulch by the Parks Department during 2011.

Limerick City Council says those are unable to transport their Christmas Trees to the collection points should contact any one of a number of private operators which will collect their trees from the their or businesses homes for a small fee.

The free Christmas Tree collection points will operate at the Park Road Depot on January 7 and 15; at Watch House Cross Shopping Centre on January 8 and at Childers Road on January 22.

The council expects the collection points, which will run from 9am to 3pm, to be busy like in previous years.
