GARDAI in the Bruff district have arrested three youths following an alleged malicious house fire in Murroe village over the weekend.

The blaze broke out in the early hours of Saturday morning, July 20. Cappamore Fire Brigade received the call at 4.20am and arrived at 4.34am. Gardai also responded to the emergency situation at Galtee View, Main Street, Murroe within minutes.

The house was extensively damaged. The fire service unit from Cappamore didn’t leave the scene until after 7am.

Subsequently, gardai arrested three local youths - all under the age of 18 - in connection with the suspected arson. They were questioned and released without charge pending a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

One local told the Leader that “it was like fireworks going off” with the amount of sparks going in the air when the ESB wires caught fire.

It is understood that people had been living in the house upto very recently and the owner was carrying out refurbishments in preparation for new tenants to move in.
