GARDAI are seeking help locating two con men who threatened another man at knife-point and sprayed him with pepper spray as they robbed him.

The man was targeted by the men whom he had earlier agreed to buy a laptop off after meeting them in the car park of a shopping centre

According to gardai, the man agreed to pay €300 in cash for the laptop when he met the men in the Childers Road area.

“The injured party then went to an ATM in Castletroy where he withdrew the cash, paid over the money and received the laptop,” said Sgt Brian Broderick.

He then drove off in the direction of the Dublin Road but was pursued by the two men who sold him the laptop.

“As he approached Kilmurray Lane, he was forced off the road and up Kilmurray Lane by a blue BMW car that was being driven by the men,” said Sgt Broderick.

One of the men approached the man with a large knife, robbed him of the laptop and sprayed him with pepper spray. The men then fled the scene in the BMW.

The driver of the BMW is described as being approximately 28 years of age and he was small and stocky and had a round face. He had sandy hair and wore a black jacket and jeans.

The second culprit is described as being tall and very thin, he had short fair hair and wore a blue T-shirt and jeans.

Anyone who was in the vicinity of the Childer’s Road, Casteltroy or Kilmurray Lane and who witnessed any part of this incident is asked to contact the Gardaí at Henry Street at 061 212400 or any Garda station.

“I would also like to warn people about the dangers of purchasing property in these types of circumstances which is almost always either stolen property or fake goods,” said Sgt Broderick.
