GARDAi have renewed their appeal for information after a man sustained serious injuries when he was stabbed several times in the back and neck.

GARDAi have renewed their appeal for information after a man sustained serious injuries when he was stabbed several times in the back and neck.

The 31-year-old was attacked by a group of men as he was walking in the Watergate Flats complex in the city last Saturday night.

The victim, who had lost a lot of blood when paramedics arrived, was taken to the Mid Western Regional Hospital where he underwent surgery for the stab wounds.

It is understood, the man was struck across the head before he was stabbed.

“This was a very serious assault and the Gardaí at Henry Street would like to hear from any witnesses, they can be contacted at 061 212400,” said Garda Denise Haverty of Henry Street Garda Station who added that gardai are anxious to speak with a number of people who were in the area at the time of the assault.
