GARDAI in Limerick city are appealing for information after a 26-year-old man was struck over the head with a bottle during an unprovoked attack.

GARDAI in Limerick city are appealing for information after a 26-year-old man was struck over the head with a bottle during an unprovoked attack.

The assault took place at around 2.20am on Sunday in the Cecil Street area of the city.

According to gardai, a group of three or four people attacked the man near the junction with Catherine Street.

“In an unprovoked attack, this man was struck over the head with a bottle and was beaten, he also received a kick to the head. He was treated at the Regional hospital and received a number of stitches to his forehead,” said Sgt Brian Broderick, pictured, who described the incident as “savage and unprovoked”.

Gardaí at Henry Street are examining CCTV as part of their inquiries.
