Two men who were arrested on the southside of Limerick earlier this week have been remanded in custody after they appeared in court charged with membership of the IRA.

Two men who were arrested on the southside of Limerick earlier this week have been remanded in custody after they appeared in court charged with membership of the IRA.

Dermot Gannon, 44, of Wellview Crescent, Mulhuddart, Co Dublin and Robert Nolan, 45, of Elmdale Park, Ballyfermot, Dublin appeared before the Special Criminal Court in Dublin this evening.

The pair were arrested in the Ballinacurra Weston area of Limerick city on Tuesday following the seizure of a handgun. Dermot Gannon is charged with possession of the revolver at Ballinacurra, Weston on January 11, last.

Both men were remanded in custody ahead of a bail application which will be heard next Friday.
