GARDAI have named the man who was killed in a road crash near Adare on Friday evening.

GARDAI have named the man who was killed in a road crash near Adare on Friday evening.

He was French national, Patrick Mahu, 54, from Silverbirch Grove in Dooradoyle,

The deceased man, who worked at Atlas Aluminium, died when he was hit by car at Monearla on the Limerick side of Adare at around 6.10 on Friday evening.

It is understood Mr Mahu was changing the tyre on his own car when he was hit by another car, which was travelling in the direction of Adare.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his wife, was taken to the Mid Western Regional Hospital as a precaution. THe driver of the second car was also taken to hospital but his injuries were not serious.

A section of the N21 was closed for several hours following the crash as gardai conducted forensic examinations.

Mr Mahu’s funeral will take place at St Paul’s Church, Dooradoyle at 11 o’clock on Tuesday morning.
