LIMERICK City and County Council is working to contain an oil spill in county Limerick.

LIMERICK City and County Council is working to contain an oil spill in county Limerick.

The local authority is responding to the incident this Thursday afternoon, which occurred at Tournafulla in west Limerick.

The Council said it was working to contain the oil spill, which occurred as a result of a leakage from a 2,500-litre oil tank situated on open land.

“At present, there is no indication of a direct implication for the local water supply,” said a spokesperson.

“Environmental specialists are due to arrive shortly at the site of the oil spill to undertake a cleanup operation, which will also include a detailed environmental impact assessment.”

Further updates are expected.
