MAJOR searches are underway in Limerick city this Wednesday afternoon after clothes, believed to be belonging to a man, were found near Athlunkard Bridge.

MAJOR searches are underway in Limerick city this Wednesday afternoon after clothes, believed to be belonging to a man, were found near Athlunkard Bridge.

The operation, involving Limerick Fire and Rescue Service’s new FireSwift boat and the Irish Coast Guard search and rescue helicopter, began at around 4pm this Wednesday when the alarm was raised.

The 4.6 metre craft, which has a speed of 25 knots, or just under 40 miles per hour, was launched minutes after the emergency call, Limerick Fire Service confirmed.
