A GARDA search for two men who fled the scene after an alleged hit and run was wound down on Monday evening.

Gardai from Roxboro and Henry Street garda stations searched on foot for two young men on the outskirts of Caherconlish.

They were backed up by mobile patrols and the regional support unit. Sergeant Cathal O’Neill said the first incident occurred at Boher between 1.30 and 2pm.

“It was a minor collision but they didn’t stop. A short time later a car, that we believe is the same car, crashed in Caherconlish village near the church,” said Sgt O’Neill.

It is believed they lost control and hit a couple’s car containing a young child.

Nobody was hurt following the road collisions.

Gardai said the men ran in to fields on the Caherconlish to Ballyneety road.

“While no arrests have been made as of yet we are following a definite line of enquiry,” said Sgt O’Neill, who thanked local people who contacted gardai for their help.

Anyone with any information on the two men, who were wearing tracksuits and hoodies, is asked to contact Roxboro on 061-214340.
