GARDAI have arrested a 27-year-old man in connection with a vicious attack on three elderly pensioners in Pallasgreen last week.

The man, who is understood to be from the Pallasgreen area was arrested at an address in Monard, County Tipperary early this morning.

Det Insp Tom O’Connor, who is leading the investigation, confirmed the man is being questioned at Bruff Garda Station under Section 50 of the Offences Against the State Act.

Last Thursday night, two elderly women and their brother were left tied up in a bedroom by two assailants armed with a sword and knives.

They were viciously assaulted during the robbery.

Willie, 74, Nora, 72, and Chrissie, 66, Creed freed themselves after two hours tied up and contacted their brother Tom Creed.

“I was absolutely shocked by what I have seen – all blood and mayhem. It was a scary kind of scene. My brother was covered in blood. The house was torn asunder by them,” said Mr Creed.

All three wounded pensioners were brought to the Regional hospital where they were treated. All were released after their overnight stay and have been recovering at home after their ordeal.

Willie received a cut in his arm and needed dozens of stitches in a head wound.

The violent robbery took place just a month after a nearby family were robbed and three weeks after 250 locals attended a meeting to discuss crime in the area with gardai.

Gardai continue their appeal for information and ask anyone with information to contact Bruff garda station on 061 382940 where a special incident room has been set up.
