A MAN who has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting and threatening to kill a woman in her 60s while she was on her way home from bingo is to be sentenced in February.

A MAN who has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting and threatening to kill a woman in her 60s while she was on her way home from bingo is to be sentenced in February.

Liam Smith, 21, of Batt Donegan Place, Charleville, pleaded guilty to a total of three charges when he was arraigned at Cork Circuit Criminal Court.

He admitted that on September 18 last he sexually assaulted the woman who had been making her way home from bingo at Charleville Community Centre on the Kilmallock Road.

Smith also admitted two separate counts of threatening to kill the woman with the intention of making her believe that he would carry out the threat to kill her.

The 61-year-old woman was attacked on a dark street at The Turrets, Rathgoggin Middle, Charleville at around 9.45pm on Sunday, September 18. She was walking home from bingo at the local community centre which is attended by people from Kilmallock and the surrounding south Limerick areas.

Smith will be sentenced on February 23, 2012.
