A WOMAN has been taken to hospital following searches of the river Shannon near the city centre this afternoon.
The alarm was raised by a member of the public at around 4pm after the woman was reportedly observed in a distressed state in the vicinity of Shannon Bridge.
Several fire brigades were deployed along with members of Limerick Marine Search and Rescue.
It is understood the woman was found on the banks of the river a short time later but it is unclear if she sustained any injuries
Rescue 115 - the Shannon based coastguard helicopter - provided assistance for a short time.
Gardai from Henry Street also attended the area.
