THE HARD work is nearly over.

Limerick’s young leader on Operation Transformation, Kayleigh Yeoman, has lost nearly two stone on the hit RTE show, which will conclude this week.

The eighth episode will be aired this Wednesday night, but she admits she will miss the experience which has brought a myriad of benefits to her life, in addition to slimming down.

The 19 year-old from Corbally weighed 15 stone and nine pounds when she first got on the scales at the start of the series, and now weighs 14st and one pound.

Kayleigh celebrated their 19th birthday last week, but laughed that she still stuck to her plan and resisted to urge to try and have her cake and eat it.

However, the sociology student in the Thurles campus of Limerick Institute of Technology has vowed to continue with her weight loss programme. The young woman, who captured the hearts of viewers with her emotional story and determination to succeed, said the experience has “totally changed my life”, as well as her attitude to food and exercise.

Her dad has also lost 10 pounds since Christmas, as he has followed his daughter’s eating pattern.

“It’s a bit sad that it’s all coming to an end, but it’s been a great experience. I’m nearly two stone down, I feel great and I’m a lot happier and healthier in myself. There’s no negatives. The diet just becomes a lifestyle after a while.

“Everyone in the show has been lovely and we’ll definitely stay in contact after the show.

“I’ll definitely be keeping up the weight loss. I have my plan and hopefully I’ll keep sticking to that. I was thrilled to get down past my target so hopefully I’ll get down another pound or two this week,” she said.

She praised the panel of health experts on the show for motivating them to success over the past two months.

“They’re experts for a reason. They have a job to do and they do it well with great results,” she said.

Her advice to anyone who wants to lose weight is: “Stick with it. Once you get out and do your bit of exercise the bad times feel like good times because you’ve accomplished something.”

She is also on track to take part in the Great Limerick Run in May, along with local man Gary Kirwan, who lost 11 stone last year. Ms Yeoman plans to jog the 6km event, while Mr Kirwan is aiming to compete in the new walkers’ marathon section of the race.
