Desmond League carry Limerick hopes in Kennedy Cup
LIMERICK’S hopes of claiming Kennedy Cup glory rests with the Desmond League after the Limerick District League missed out in a place in the quarter-finals of the prestigious U-14 inter-league tournament at UL.
The Limerick Desmond finished top of Group 6 with a maximum nine points after defeating the Wicklow League 4-1 in their final round robin game. The Desmond League had earlier beaten the Cork and Donegal leagues.
Desmond League’s reward for topping Group 6 is a quarter-final date with the Dundalk League at UL today, Wednesday, at 1pm.
There was disappointment for the Limerick and District Schoolboy League however who suffered a 1-0 defeat to the Kerry League in their decisive Group 3 fixture. The District League side finished second in their group as a result and will now concentrate their efforts on the Bowl competition. The District face the Inishowen League is a Bowl quarter-final at UL today, Wednesday, at 1pm.
Meanwhile, the Limerick County Schoolboy League are in Trophy quarter-final action at UL today, Wednesday, 11am after finishing fourth in their Kennedy Cup group.
Limerick County take on the Sligo/Leitrim League at 11am.
