Limerick SFC - Friday night round-up
NEWCASTLE West and St Kierans were the winners on the opening night of the Limerick SFC.
Newcastle West beat Fr Caseys 2-7 to 0-7 while St Kierans were 2-12 to 2-9 winners over Adare.
A goal in either half propelled Newcastle West to their win. Thomas Quilligan’s goal had them 1-5 to 0-4 ahead at half time.
Quilligan ended with 1-4 (1-2 from play).
Fr Caseys’ fightback came with 0-3 from wing back Daniel Daly and 0-2 from full forward John Riordan.
The Abbeyfeale late surge was in forward motion when Cian Sheehan sealed the Newcastle West with a goal in the final minute.
That western derby was in Tournafulla.
In Rathkeale, St Kierans scored two goals to beat Adare 2-12 to 2-9.
St Kierans were 0-5 to 0-4 ahead after playing against the first half wind. But Adare took over early in the second half with Mikey Lyons scoring a cracking goal in the 47th minute to give them a 1-9 to 0-8 lead.
But St Kierans came to life in the final 10-minutes. Goals from Niall O’Shea and Seamus Mangan had them 2-11 to 1-9 clear with two minutes to play.
Adare were given a lifeline when Jack English goaled in injury time but they couldn’t find an equaliser.
Meanwhile in the Limerick IFC Claughaun were 3-9 to 1- winners over Castlemahon in Askeaton.
