Memories of 1993 and legendary Dodo

In light of the fact that it is 20 years since that riotous occasion up in the Big Smoke, when Young Munster won the All Ireland League, I thought you might like to publish poem enclosed. It happened on February 13, 1993 and the score was Young Munster 17, St Mary’s 14.

One of Young Munster’s most famous supporters, the legendary Dodo Reddan, was naturally in attendance and this was my tribute to her.

I had just begun to write (a late developer!) and I tended to write about anything that was going on in the city.

Dodo Reddan

Here she comes down the street

With a smile for everyone she’ll meet,

An old pram that is near corroded

With several dogs is now well loaded.

Some are black, some are white

But not one from Dodo will take flight,

She feeds them all so very well

How she does, no one can tell.

On the day of the Big Match

Her canine friends no cold will catch,

‘Mid caps and scarves they peacefully slumber

Sporting Young Munster’s Black ‘n Amber.

A ‘character’ caring and unique

For no special notice does she seek,

Through our city, devoid of pageant

Our Dodo has become a legend.
