February 9 - Bring on a great season of hurling
NOW that the new GAA season is with us once again, I am really looking forward to our hurlers doing well this year. We had a lovely grand team last year and with that experience behind them and a bit more belief in themselves we have a marvellous chance of reaching the Munster final. Last year, if David Breen had put away his second goal chance it was game over and we would have given Tipp a good hiding.
With members of our great under-21 team of two years ago coming on stream, the panel should be strengthened. With fellows like Patrick Begley and Ronan Lynch, I am excited about the year ahead. Roll on June.
My one regret is that Brian Geary isn’t around to play centre-back. Going back to the three-in-a-row against Tipp a couple of years ago, he was absolutely magnificent. I would like to personally thank him for his contribution to Limerick hurling and football, and to wish him a long and happy retirement. You deserve it Brian.
My wishlist for 2013 is that we win the Munster championship, that Martin Kiely stops writing about the Treaty, the Balbec, and stops criticising the county board. It would be great if he wrote something positive for a change.
