February 9 - No justice for our Kilmallock heroes

AS staunch Kilmallock supporters it is with great disappointment and in truth utter disgust we learn of the decision of the county board to revoke the right of the county champions to captain the Limerick team.

AS staunch Kilmallock supporters it is with great disappointment and in truth utter disgust we learn of the decision of the county board to revoke the right of the county champions to captain the Limerick team.

The Kilmallock team played their hearts out to once again bring the Daly Cup back to our town. As champions they deserve to have a player captaining our county. The point has been made by John Allen that in some instances the county champions will not have a candidate suitable to captain the team. This may be so. However, it is certainly not true in the case of Kilmallock. We have players of great skill, determination and dedication who are also great team players.

This rule should have been discussed in more detail and should the motion have been passed it should have came into force next year. All teams would then know where the stood in advance.

We feel that John Allen with his new rules and his criticisms of his own team has begun this year badly. Respect for the county champions should be shown by him.

Kilmallock are champions for a reason. They should be honoured to show all young boys growing up with a love of hurling that success will bring great things.
