May 11 - Great Limerick Run up there with the best

Michael Collins has experienced many races in many countries and ranks the GLR up there with any of them
I write to express my appreciation to the organisers of the recently held Barringtons Hospital Great Limerick Run. I travelled to Limerick for the first time with a group of colleagues from Co Offaly, each of us doing various races. We have taken part in many marathon and running events over the years both at home and abroad and without question this event is up there with the best.

The sports expo in the university was a dream, with no queues – and when we arrived on Saturday we realised that there was a children’s event on which we stayed to watch. To witness hundreds of young children run and receive T-shirts and medals was fantastic and it set the tone perfectly for Sunday.

The crowds of people along the route cheering and calling us by name (thanks to the personalised race bibs) at various points was strange but nice with the music towards the finish extra special.

The high quality bag, T-shirt, atmosphere and weather all contributed to a fantastic day.

We were extremely well treated at our hotel and by the people of Limerick when we were out and about the town. Roll on the May Bank Holiday 2014 as Limerick becomes our destination once again.

Take a bow and very well done, organising team. You deserve it.
