A man is being questioned by gardai following the discovery of two suspicious devices at a house on Maiden Street, Newcastle West

A MAN is being being questioned by gardai following the discovery of two suspicious devices at a house in Newcastle West last night.

The devices were discovered following a planned search of an upstairs apartment at Maiden Street shortly after 10pm.

A number of adjacent properties were evacuated as a precaution pending an examination of the devices by members of the Defence Forces’ Explosives Ordinance Disposal (EOD) team.

A spokesperson confirmed the devices, which were not-viable, were declared safe at around 1am.

A man in his 40s was arrested and is being questioned at Newcastle West garda station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
