Phone lines cut during burglary at Limerick premises

GARDAI are investigating what they describe as “a very organised burglary” at a commercial premises in the Raheen Industrial Estate.
A quantity of cash was taken during the break-in, which happened sometime between 7pm on January 10, last and 8am the following morning.
“The thieves cut underground phone lines nearby and then pulled the alarm box off the wall outside the premises. We also believe that the thieves used gloves that were located at the rear of a nearby premises,” said Sgt Brian Broderick.
Once inside, the culprits ransacked several offices and a cash float was stolen.
As a result of the incident, Sgt Broderick is warning businesspeople not to leave cash on their premises at night.
“It is important for business people to realise that criminals will break into offices and other commercial premises for relatively small amounts of money such as cash floats. Ideally cash should not be stored on premises at night, tills should be emptied and left open and if it is necessary to keep some cash on the premises it should be placed in a good quality safe that is securely fastened to a solid structure,” he said.
Sgt Broderick says, where possible, a back-up signalling system should also be installed on security alarms in the event that phone lines are tampered with as was the case in this instance.
Gardai at Roxboro Road are investigating the break-in.
