THE case of a homecarer who deceived an elderly widow out of thousands of euro was adjourned to allow him pay additional compensation.

Michael Harrington, aged 27, of Cronan Lawn, Shannon, was sentenced to eight months in prison in 2010 after he pleaded guilty to two separate charges of deception on dates in 2008 and 2009.

Harrington appealed the severity of the sentence and, last year, agreed to pay €50 a week in compensation to the pensioner.

During a review of the case, Judge Carroll Moran was told he is continuing to make payments.
