Man rescued from River Shannon

MEMBERS of the Limerick fire service rescued a man from the River Shannon near Limerick city centre in the early hours of this morning.

The man, who is believed to be aged in his forties, was seen entering the river at O’Callaghan Strand at around 5.30am.

Gardai, ambulance and fire service personnel attended the scene and the man was rescued by firemen who deployed their swift water rescue craft.

The man was taken to the Mid Western Regional Hospital afterwards where he is being treated for non life-threatening injuries.

A spokesperson for the Limerick City Fire and Rescue Service said it was the third incident they have attended on the River Shannon in the past week.
