Man charged over West Limerick drugs seizure sent forward for trial
Solicitor Michael O'Donnell: Application for legal aid granted
A POLISH national has been sent forward for trial charged in connection with one of the biggest drug seizures in West Limerick in recent memory.
Piotr Glebocki, aged 46, is accused of cultivating 192 cannabis plants with a street value of over €150,000, which were found during a raid on a rural house at Bohard, Kilmeedy on December 5 last.
Glebocki has been in custody at Limerick Prison since December, having been denied bail following a number of garda objections, including concerns about his lack of travel documentation.
At Newcastle West Court last Friday, Garda Jason Mitchell gave evidence of formally charging Glebocki with the new offences of possession of drugs, and possession of drugs for sale or supply. He had earlier been charged with cultivation of drugs.
State solicitor Aidan Judge formally served the accused with a book of evidence, and asked that Glebocki be sent forward for trial at the next sitting of Limerick Circuit Court.
Judge Mary Larkin issued the accused with the alibi warning, which means that he cannot produce alibi witnesses in his defence without first giving 14 days notice.
Solicitor Michael O’Donnell, defending, said that he had no objection to the application. He was granted legal aid for one junior counsel on the accused’s behalf. Glebocki was remanded in custody to Limerick prison until his trial.
