A MOLDOVAN has appeared in court charged in connection with a global ATM fraud operation.

Vitalii Pascari, 33, with an address at River Road, Rhebogue, appeared before a special sitting of Limerick District Court after he was charged under the Theft and Fraud Offences Act.

He was charged with eight theft and fraud offences relating to the alleged manufacturing and distribution of ATM skimming devices.

Garda Brendan Stokes gave evidence of arresting the accused at his address in Rhebogue following a lengthy surveillance operation involving customs officials and gardai.

It is alleged they uncovered a workshop for the manufacture and distribution of skimming devices to fit to ATM machines and make false laser, visa and gift cards as part of an international organisation.

Interpol and the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation are also assisting in the investigation into the operation which was described as well financed and well organised.

The accused man has an Irish passport and has lived here for nine years.
