Limerick men charged with membership of IRA
The Courts of Criminal Justice
Two Limerick men who were arrested in County Tipperary last Thursday have appeared in court charged with membership of an illegal organisation.
Noel Noonan, aged 34, of North Claughan Road, Garryowen and Thomas McMahon, aged 31, of Ros Fearna, Murroe appeared before the Special Criminal Court in Dublin this evening.
They are both charged with membership of an unlawful organisation styling itself on the IRA near Cahir, County Tipperary on February 7, last.
The non-jury-court, Mr Justice Paul Butler presiding, was told that Noonan made no reply when he was formally charged and that McMahon replied "okay".
Neither of the men applied for bail during the brief hearing but the court was told a bail application is likely to be made on the next date.
The defendants were remanded in custody until next Friday, February 15.
A third LImerick man who was arrested as part of the same investigation was released without charge earlier today.
