Patrick Cawley made the threats at Henry Street garda station

A MOYROSS man who abused and threatened gardai after they were forced to “pepper spray” his son was fined €400 for public order offences.

Limerick Court was told Patrick Cawley, aged 42, of Whitcross Gardens, Moyross arrived at Henry Street garda station at around 2.20am on December 15, last after receiving a phone call to tell him his son had been arrested.

“He started roaring and shouting in the public office,” said Insp Luke Conlon who added that he was also “violent and aggressive” towards gardai on the night and refused to leave the garda station.

Solicitor John Devane said his client had initially gone to the garda station to “find out what was happening with his son” but things had spiralled out of control.

He told the court his client, who has 25 previous convictions, “had a few drinks on board” and that he had apologised for his actions.

Judge Eugene O’Kelly commented that Cawley has “obviously given a very bad example to his son” who appeared before the court on unrelated charges.

The judge fined Patrick Cawley Senior €400 for refusing to obey the direction of a garda.
