A THIRTY-seven-year-old man was remanded in custody last night after he was charged in connection with the seizure of a Glock pistol at an apartment in the city over the weekend.

Sam O’Flaherty, aged 37, with an address at Henry Street, appeared before a special sitting of Limerick Court charged with possession of the weapon at his home last Saturday afternoon.

During the brief hearing, Detective Garda David Baynham, Henry Street, gave evidence of arresting and formally charging the accused on Sunday night.

O’Flaherty was granted free-legal aid by Judge Eugene O’Kelly and solicitor John Herbert said his client would be applying for bail when he appears before the court again tomorrow.

A quantity of ammunition and a small amount of drugs were also seized at the apartment when it was searched by gardai on Saturday.

An English national, an Austrian man and a second Limerick man, who were also arrested as part of the same investigation, were released without charge.

A file is being prepared for the DPP on the matter.
