Limerick court hears man had ‘no memory’ of breaking window

A TOURNAFULLA man who had no significant memory of what had happened on a night he was drinking in Abbeyfeale accepted that he was cause of a broken window in the town.

“He doesn’t remember breaking the window,” solicitor Pat Enright said,” but there are some features of the incident that lead him to think he was the cause.”

However, pleading for his client Joseph O’Connor, 5 New Houses, Tournafulla, Mr Enright said that he was a victim of part of what had happened on the night and found, the morning after, that he had lost part of a tooth.

Mr O’Connor pleaded to charges of damaging property, of being intoxicated in a public place and of threatening and abusive behaviour.

Supt Dan Flavin said the broken pub window had cost €1078.25 to replace and there was also damage of €235 done to the shuttering. Mr O’Connor was unruly and disorderly at 3.30am on the night of the incident, last January 5, at Killarney Rd, Abbeyfeale.

Mr Enright said Mr O’Connor was willing to pay compensation but needed time. Convicting Mr O’Connor, Judge Mary Larkin remanded Mr O’Connor to May 8 by which court he should have €200 in compensation. She ordered the remaining compensation to be paid at a rate of €100 per month.
